The Achievements of Luther Trant William MacHarg Edwin Balmer Books
This is a fun read. Luther Trant is a young psychology student/researcher who believes that all crime can be solved by applying psychological practices and knowledge. He uses the latest in technology, like a lie detector (though he called it a very long technical name - it's still a lie detector) to tell whodunit. The author uses the knowledge of the day and insists that the facts are not debatable. It's kind of cute, actually. With today's knowledge, we know that lie detectors are not perfect. But at the time these stories were written, all of these things were solid facts and there was no more to be learned. That was not a dig against this book. This is fun and pulpy, and I got a kick reading about "the good old days" (specifically around 1910) and how things were more black and white than they are now. At least that's how it was in fiction.
